Michael Showalter | The A.V. Club → avclub.com

morrisonfilm:

Great interview with Michael Showalter. I very much share his taste in comedy as explained on the 3rd page.

I like silly things. I think that “silly-stupid” or “stupid-smart” might be my philosophy, which is to combine a veneer of intelligence with an undercurrent of crass stupidity.

I’m a huge Stella fan, so the fact that Shawn linked to this might explain why I love the Maniacal Rage Podcast so much.

I’ve come up with a New Years Resolution! I haven’t been drinking Coke for the last month and it feels so much better. I actually haven’t been able to bring myself to drink it, even when it would be nice/convenient. I just imagine it dissolving my teeth and giving me headaches. I think I’m going to give up high-fructose soda for good. — david

I’ve often thought about doing this, but I don’t know if I could bring myself to do it. Coke is my favorite beverage, so getting rid of it would be tough — I drink 1-2 bottles/cans a day.

“I saw that he was not in conversation, not talking to anyone, and poking at his phone in the middle of the public floorspace so I walked over. Thinking a girl — in this case, a fangirl, me — will never get anything if she doesn’t ask for it, I lightly touched his arm. He looked at me, and I blushingly asked if it would be okay for me to ask if I could take a picture with him. He told me curtly, flatly that I was rude. And turned his back to me. The small circle of people around him sniggered. That woman you see actually snort-laughed at me, and rolled her eyes.” —Rookie mistake… what happened with me and steve jobs on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

“While HD DVD and Blu-ray have both lost key supporters recently, Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace seems to just keep adding new content providers, this time bringing MGM and Disney-ABC Television Group to the fold. Conspicuous in that bothare exclusive Blu-ray supporters, Xbox 360 owners will — later this month — have access to ABC hits like Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives in HD the day after they air. So far, MGM’s announced just classic and catalog flicks like the Rocky series and The Usual Suspects, with “most” available in HD. Still looking for a Blu-ray add-on or built in HD DVD?” —Oh snap! Apple, we demand HD content now!
